Hvar Observatory is a department of the Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagreb and the only professional astrophysical observatory in Republic of Croatia. The main aim of Hvar Observatory is performing scientific work in the field of astronomy and astrophysics and education of young scientists in this research area. Astronomical instruments of Hvar Observatory embrace 4 telescopes for observations of the Sun, solar system bodies, stars and galaxies. The Observatory is located on the island of Hvar, while the offices are located at the Faculty of Geodesy in Zagreb. Currently 7 scientists and 1 technical staff member are employed at Hvar Observatory. Besides astronomical and astrophysical observations, geodetic and geophysical measurements are also performed. Solar and stellar physics, including analysis of physical processes in the atmospheres of the Sun and stars and space weather research, are among the main research topics performed at Hvar Observatory. The main area of interest in solar physics are the structure and dynamics of the solar atmosphere, solar rotation and activity and the study of eruptive phenomena on the Sun.
