The Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA) is part of Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest research organization in Spain. With about 200 staff members, IAA-CSIC carries out research in almost all branches of modern astrophysics. Currently, the solar physics group consists of 4 tenured scientists, 3 postdoctoral fellows, and 6 engineers. The research interests of the group focus on the magnetic coupling and dynamics of the solar atmosphere. These topics are studied through very high spatial resolution observations in different wavelength ranges. IAA-CSIC has experience in the interpretation of spectropolarimetric data through the inversion of the radiative transfer equation and theoretical analyses of the sensitivity of spectral lines. A number of inversion codes have been developed in house. IAA-CSIC is co-PI on the PHI instrument for ESA’s Solar Orbiter mission and co-I on the SUNRISE balloon-borne solar observatory, providing hardware for both. In particular, we are responsible for the IMaX+ filtergraph and contribute to the development of the SCIP spectropolarimeter on SUNRISE. IAA-CSIC is also deeply involved in the preparatory phase of the European Solar Telescope (EST).

Within the SOLARNET Mobility Programme, we offer early-stage researchers the possiblity to work in Granada on a variety of topics, including the inversion of spectropolarimetric data both in LTE
(SIR, MILOS) and in NLTE (DESIRE), the analysis of high-resolution observations of the quiet Sun and active regions, the interpretation of chromospheric measurements, and instrumental development.
